day 1 Arequipa / Lookout of Tapay / SAN JUAN DE CHUCCHO
Pick up at hotel between 05:00-5:30am to go into the valley of Colca, the journey will take us about 4 hours to Chivay where we stop briefly. Then continue the journey to Cabanaconde (two and a half hours more travel) where we will have lunch, and then begin our hike and descend into the Colca Canyon, about 3½ to 4hrs. During the journey we can see diverse vegetation and the tropical Andes, and also the geological formation of the Colca Canyon, part of the formation of the Andes, known as Chila. Once at the bottom of the canyon we cross the suspension bridge of San Juan de Chuccho, to arrive to the people of the same name, where we spend the night at locals’ homes or if the passenger prefers we will be able to camp in tents.
Dinner.
Second day SAN JUAN / Sangallo (OASIS)
Breakfast and then start our journey again, ascend about 300 meters before reaching the village, first and then Cosñirhua Malate, where we will appreciate the customs and its pre-Inca terraces that still retain our Quechua ancestral tongue. These villages still do not have electricity, nor is there access for vehicular transport. Descend toward Sangallo, known by tourists as the Oasis, made by the Andean climate, full of vegetation (altoandina) mixed with tropical vegetation. At the warm springs there, we can enjoy a refreshing swim in the pools located in this beautiful place (waters have a temperature of approx. of 18°C) to enjoy nature and the sounds of the river. Lunch, spend second night in basic bungalows or tents. Dinner.
Third day OASIS / Cabanaconde / Chivay / Arequipa
At 3:00 am we rise to Cabanaconde, where we can watch the sunrise, arriving at approx 630am. We take our famous breakfast pancakes (made from banana milk and egg) and then take the bus and lookout from Cruz del Condor, since there is another impressive sight of the famous Colca Canyon and from where one can normally see the flight of the condors. Return to Chivay, and then to La Calera to enjoy the hot springs. Lunch and return to Arequipa.
